The challenge of the design competition was to upcycle tarpaulin from a construction site. Fashion designer Jana Reiche created an impressive poncho.
The poncho is made from water-resistant cotton fabric onto which the designer applied more than 50 pieces of the mesh material.
The designer chose the topic of ambivalence between social distancing during lockdown and the approaching of different cultures.
The coated cotton base fabric is a left-over designer fabric that was bought at Textilhafen. At Textilhafen they collect donations for homeless people and sell materials to designers for reuse and upcycling that are not needed.
Jr sewing’s goal is to spread the idea of sustainable fashion consumption because every year there are millions of tons of clothing going to trash.
The best designs were displayed on Ströer Media billboards throughout berlin.
